UKRAINE FUNDRAISING CONCERT

I am putting this right at the front of this newsletter as we are really wanting our members and friends of the club to support this as much as possible.

Usually, when you are organizing a function when you have about 150 people booked 2 and half weeks before the event you would be pretty happy but when it is at a venue that can hold over 1000 people it is a bit of a concern as we don't want the venue to look almost empty.

Of course, it won't look empty as apart from the 150 people already booked we have agreed to let in 50 recently returned Ukrainian refugees as well as there are quite a few performers in choirs and dance groups that will all need seats as well.

There has been a lot of work going into promoting the event and it is still ongoing.

You may have noticed it in some of these publications:

  • "What's on in Melbourne"

  • Trybookings

  • Eventbrite

  • Rotary District's Networker

  • North West City News

  • The Multi-Cultural Commission of Victoria Newsletter

  • The Travel Agents Newsletter

  • Promoted to every Rotary District in Victoria

  • Promoted thru the Ames network

  • Promoted through the Association of Ukrainians in Victoria network

  • The local Labor Party Newsletter

  • Shared on numerous Facebook groups

  • "This newsletter"

So far less than half our members have booked so far and so I am really appealing to all members and friends of our club to please support this most worthy event.

The details are as follows:

Date:     Saturday 7th May 2022 at 3.00 pm

Venue: Melbourne Town Hall

Cost:     $25.00/person,  $10.00/child 12 and under.

If you can't make it you can still log on and make a donation. Or you can go and donate as well.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MENTORING PROGRAM

Last week I mentioned that I had agreed to be part of this program. Well, I registered and I don't think I know what I was getting into.

Straight away I have had to complete an online profile including a photo and an introductory video and do the first 2 training sessions.

I am now waiting on a Mentee actually choose me to be their mentor and then there will be more training and about 1hour of commitment a week.

Rotary District 9800 Conference 2022

It starts in only 2 days now on Friday 22nd April.

ELECTION BBQ

We now have the date and it is on Saturday 21st May 2022 and it will be at the North Melbourne Primary School. We have made contact with the school principal, Sarah Nightingale and she has confirmed her agreement for us to run this BBQ, naturally on the basis of sharing the profits with the school

Naturally, it is on Mother's Day, 8th May 2022 at Alexandra Gardens - Melbourne

METRO TUNNEL BBQ No. 2

This is on the day after the election BBQ on Sunday 22nd May 2022. So apart from all the work, we'll have to do at the BBQ there will be plenty to talk about after the votes are in.

No More Zoom Meetings

At our last zoom meeting, we decided we will no longer proceed with regular fortnightly zoom meetings.

We felt we have just about had enough of them now and so will just stick with the fortnightly in-person meetings at the Mercure Hotel and just have a zoom meeting to serve as a Board Meeting at about 6-week intervals.

So this means No Meeting tomorrow

Last Meeting Thursday 14th April 2022 Keir Paterson

Keir is the local Labor candidate for the Seat of Melbourne. It is the first time he has stood for politics and came across as a very well motivated candidate

Whilst attendance was a challenge holding the meeting the evening before good Friday but was still a very good meeting.

Neville & Judy Page, Herbson, Ted, Andrew, Global Grant Scholar Atsuya and speaker Keir Paterson
