What's Happened During the Week???

Last week at the Mercure Hotel we had Khadijo Ali Hashi speak to us about her life and it was quite an amazing and at times confronting story. She told us about her incredible escape out of Somalia trying to carry a baby son with an injured shoulder and how at one point she was in such a state she had decided to just put him under a tree and leave him there. She only went a few steps and went back for him and every time her son plays up now she tells him she should have left him under the tree. Khadijo is now the President of the Somalian Women's Development Association and made a great rapport with our members.

What a great return to BBQing last Sunday. We had 9 of our members there working as a team. There was Judy and I, James and Cheryl, Larry, Ted, Andrew, Herbson and Manjula.

Ted catered perfectly as we didn’t run out of anything and there was hardly anything left to throw out at the end either.

Plus Ted was singing away in with the rest of the Homebrew Verandah Singers

Thursday 9th December 2021 - at 7.00 pm

Tomorrow we have a Catlin Healy from Destiny Rescue who will be updating us on the work they are doing and some of the amazing rescues

Destiny Rescue has now 7,976 individuals as a result of their:

Search for children in sexually exploitative and trafficking situations.
Identify a child in harmful circumstances and work relentlessly to bring her to freedom.
Reconnect or introduce these young survivors into safe and supportive environment

Xmas BBQ for Ames Australia - Friday 10th December 2021

This is a big Xmas BBQ for Ames Australia where they will be getting together with their staff and some of the Afghani refugees.

Below is a brief running sheet for the day.

4 pm	Guests start arriving
4.30 pm	Talk by Parks Victoria about enjoying parks in Victoria/park safety / environmental awareness
5 pm	BBQ dinner service
6 pm	Address to the crowd from CEO (own PA system)
	Visit from ‘The Man in Red’
6.30 pm	Dinner service cease and clean up / pack up for bbq trailer

This is now just 2 days away and is at TH Westfield Reserve, Clifton Hill. We have catered for 400 people and our volunteers all teed up for this event. They are James and Cheryl, Judy and !, Sainab & Khalid, Ted, Larry, Herbson, Manjula, George, Rahma, Kayla & Yacquub, and Andrew might be able to get there to help with the pack up. They contacted me to ask what the power is for as it seems they are actually hiring a generator for us. They also contacted me to say they are expecting fewer numbers now so IU said we’ll just leave everything as we have it and they can have 3 sausages each instead of 2 or if anything is left over at the end we will get it to St.Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy or Ozanam House in North Melbourne. We need about half the above at 3.15 pm to start the setup and the rest by about 4.15 pm so we can start serving by 5.00 pm.

Our own club Christmas meeting at the Mercure Hotel, Cnr Harker St and Flemington Rd North Melbourne

The Mercure Hotel is preparing a special 2 course Christmas meal for us at the special price of $40.00/head. The meals include Turkey and Plum Pudding
