Well, it's over and for that matter, our whole Rotary year is nearly over too.

Thanks to all our members who helped out on this event as well as the non-members too. As the team numbers were building up it always looked like it was heading to be a successful event but it really was amazing. It is the first time the event has been held at a Hotel venue and the Mercure Hotel, North Melbourne really turned out to be an ideal venue.

Thanks to James and Cheryl going to DIK and bringing every large country flag that is in the District’s possession and we got as close as possible to having every one of them on display.

While we were of course very reliant on all our volunteers for it to all run so smoothly, the reality is I think those that did come and help did enjoy the experience as it was such a stimulating place to be in over the weekend. There wasn’t anywhere else I would rather have been.

The helpers from our club were Larry and Susan Robb, Roman Korchev, Ted Dziadkiewicz, Andrew Georgiou, Kammy Leung, Judy Page, James Long, Cheryl Dorgan, and our President Sainab Sheikh.

Other helpers were Thanu Kothalawala (Mother’s Day Classic Committee), Janet Hay (Rotary E Club of Melbourne), Marwah Alharbi (Mentor Match program), Chris Richardson (Essendon North RC), and Brett Lefebvre (Kyneton RC) as well as District Governor, Dale Hoy and District Youth Chairman, Khurram Khan.

As well District Photographer, Bronwyn Fanning attended on Sunday as well. Chadstone East Malvern RC and Brighton RC also had representatives watching as well as some teachers too.

There were some great debating performances over the weekend and some of the costumes were quite creative as well.

Mario and Luigi won the best costume representing Italy.

Runner up in the costume section was the Indian team who on Saturday were sitting quite close to Boris Johnson of United Kingdom.

The in-house technology helped give a professional look as well

UKRAINE CONCERT

Progress has been made with actually distributing the funds raised. We are using a 3 phase strategy. First, we have directly donated $10,000.00 into the rotary Foundation the special Disaster Aid fund for Ukraine that closed on 30th April 2022. We have now also donated about $10,500.00 to RAWCS. (Rotary Australia World Community Services). The exact amount donated equated to all of the public donations to our fund-raiser which means that everyone that did donate will have now already received a tax-deductible receipt. The remaining funds in the order of $14,500.00 will be carefully distributed to Rotary clubs “on the spot” in Ukraine and Poland. This will be reported on as we progress in this area.

As you can see above the District Changeover is this weekend awards are being announced so we will soon see if this project gets a mention.

Rotary International Convention - Melbourne

My understanding is registrations are already over 6000. If you do register at the end when it comes to payment there is an option to pay later. As I said you will probably never get another chance to go without having to pay for international airfares and accommodation.

Here is the link to the book  https://convention.rotary.org/en/melbourne

If you have any trouble booking then please contact me.

Vale

Sr Jean Dwyer

I advised members that a long-time friend of our club Sr Jean Dwyer passed away last week and was buried today. She is known to our club as the founder and long-time Chief Executive of Joseph’s Corner. Below is a screenshot of her funeral service that was run by Tobin Brothers and streamed online.

Next Meeting

We have a regular meeting this Thursday 23rd June 2022 at the Mercure Hotel, Cnr of Flemington Rd and Harker St North Melbourne at 6.45 pm for a 7.00 pm start.

We have 1 visiting Rotarian from Western Australia who will say a few words but primarily we want to review MUNA and plan for our Changeover the following week. If Reshma is available, we will induct her as well. If you have been working hard at our never-ending stream of events lately then just show up to this site and relax at a simple rotary meeting with your friends.

This event will commence at 7.00 pm with canapes in arrival for 30 minutes followed by a 2 course sit down dinner. The venue is still finalizing the price and menu with us but it looks like being $55.00/head.

Payment can be made on the night using cash or a credit card. We will have to give the final numbers in only 7 days so please contact me ASAP. (page@ghp.biz) We already have confirmation that the incoming District Governor Elect, Ron Payne will be present with his wife Deb will be attending. So please come and join us on this occasion of Sainab continuing her commitment to our club as President again.
