President's Message

It was a privilege to speak to you all on 1st July 2021 our club’s changeover as your new President of Rotary Club of North Melbourne!  Thank you for the honour and thank you to those who were able to be there in attendance.

This year's Rotary Theme is “Serve to Change Lives”.  We will be making a difference to change lives by continuing to provide financial support and volunteer service in our local and international communities.

As a range of restrictions eased across Victoria last night, thanks to the incredible work of our public health teams and every single Victorian who has done their part to keep our community safe from coronavirus (COVID-19). meaning businesses and venues can reopen with capacity and density limits of 1 person per 4sqm.

On this Thursday 29th July 21, our in-person meeting will take place at the same hotel address. And you make sure that you all attend. This week, our club has 11 potential new members who will all attend our in-person meeting on 29 July 2021.

Firstly, our Paediatric Cardiology Fellow at Royal Children Hospital Dr. Ida is our champion as she attracted 7 new potential members to our club this week. They are all the local community in North Melbourne. Dr. Ida, thank you so much for your achievement to promote our club through social media.

Similarly, the club president Sainab Sheikh has also invited to the club a good friend of her who is a community leader and a professional accountant Mr. Ibrahim Abdi who attended the online zoom meeting on Thursday 22nd. Mr Abdi will also attend this week’s in-person meeting. Mr. Ibrahim invited another two close friends to join the club meeting this week as they are our potential new members too. Faduma Ali will also attend as she is our potential new member too.

Anyway, I am encouraging all our club members (Rotarians and Rotaract) to grow our rotary club. We must grow our service, we must grow the impact of our projects, but, most importantly, we must grow our membership so that we can achieve more.

Susan Rob and Judith Page are involved in RIMERN as they’re representing our club while they managed, planning, and organising volunteers.

Last year, Susan Rob was nominated a Vocational Chair but this year as she has now taken on the RIMERN volunteer manager, she just does not have time to do it this year. If anyone would like to take that role, please do so. I think it would be good to have somebody attend it through the Zoom meeting.

Our club embraces diversity and has a good mix of women and men members. We are flexible and open to change. We value the opinion and contributions of all our members and our community of friends and supporters.

In conclusion, let me change some great words spoken by former U.S. President John F Kennedy: so, my fellow members of Rotary Club of North Melbourne, ask not what Rotary Club of North Melbourne can do for you.  Ask what you can do for the Rotary Club of North Melbourne. My fellow Rotarians International, ask not what Rotary will do for you, but what together we can do to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

If you would like to attend one of our meetings or require any additional information about our club, please contact us by email at info@rotarynorthmelbourne.org.au
